I've had this problem and was about it left me thinking one of these
things : Either Ubuntu is bugged, or my sound card is bad. Also thought
that my speakers were bad cause the sound had bad quality.
FIXED THE PROBLEM by manually adjusting setting pins on the sound card
(yes on the hardware

Could you be more specific? I am not guru and I thought that if I refer
a problem some of guru will be so kind and help me to fix this problem.
This wiki stuff really does not help. Reinstaling alsa pulse is like to
kill fly by masive gun. Thanks for solving this problem.
