I don't think this is completely fixed yet.
1) The difference between the stages is not intuitive. Why smaller waves
(1 to 2) and lighter gray levels (2 to 3) should be understood as a more
advanced stage of connection?
2) The transition from 2 to 3 is very, very subtle. I'd say barely

Let me start of by saying , This bug was slated to be not fixed.
As , 1: No one, other than people actually looking for the difference, really
cares about the stages or watches the stages during connection.
2: No one would really know what the different stages are unless they
err...
stage 2 is the stage where the hardware scans for networks, send passwords ,
hence the waves move outwards and back inwards.
stage 3 is after the resolution of the passwords for the wireless and the
connection is established , hence retaining the old animation seemed ok.

Yeah, but those people are not irrelevant. :) For me, for example, being
stuck in stage 2 or stage 3 is the difference between asking the person

The not needed to fix this bug aernt my comments , but i agree.
But your arguments are a bit off , everyone knows or would realize if an
envelope changes color , it is calling for attention. I dont think we need a
manual for that.
However if the icon changes shape it would also cause alarm if
everyone knows or would realize if an envelope changes color , it is

If that was true, then there would be no need to change the
dimmed-normal originally planned for Lucid to dimmed-green like it
recently happened. Mark acknowledged that people did not feel that
Another suggestion would be a traffic light metaphor: red - yellow -
green.

Sorry, I got confused. Rephrasing the last part.
Compare this with the current version:
1 - wide waves
2 - narrow waves, animation back and forward
3 - narrow waves, animation just forward
What does back and forward means? We are closer? We are being
rejected, so what we send is coming back? We

You are confused ;-)
The dimmed - normal was not noticeable *enough* , people werent
noticing the change in the icon, since the change was too subtle.
Folks missed the messages, since the icon became closer to the rest of
the icons. And did not draw attention.
Hence there was a need for a
Aanyway, to some extent I agree that it's just an animation'
and I understand if you simply want to close this bug and move the
discussion to another place, as most of what I'm saying are personal
opinions.

While I agree that it is possible to differentiate these stages I am not
sure if it is really necessary. Nobody but experienced users will know
what the stages means. In addition we do not currently have a good
solution for these stages. Definitely something to think about for +1
