I didn't understand how to workaround this problem, but I confirm it is very
bad-looking in the new scheme.
Can we just remove the background from that icon? Where the icon is saved?

Confirming the issue on Lucid Lynx Beta 1, Theme - Ambiance, New Wave
etc. It looks ugly and needs to be fixed. Can't expect most users to
have a workaround.

(Notification applet) and is written by Canonical, which is different
from the default "Zone de notification" (Notification zone) which can be
removed safely.

It can be "worked around" by only using the Canonical notification
applet and removing the default one (as the OO.org applet is not drawn
there).
