Hi there,
FYI
I've just upgraded to Maverick and the issue is still there: the
internal mic works, while there's not input when I connect an external
microphone.
I still have to add options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba to alsa-
base.conf in order to get any input from an external mic,
This way

@Snake, have you tried dealing with alsamixer?
In my case, opening alsamixer and hitting F4 shows me the recording
controls, one of which lets me choose between input sources, using the
up and down arrow keys.
To open just type alsamixer into a console, without the quotes. Then
navigate with arrow
I have the same problem on a fresh installation of Lucid, I use a laptop hp

The internal microphone work fine, but when I try an external one in the mic
jack input, the internal still working and the external doesn't.
I tied to change the device but nothing seems to work. (Analog stereo
Hi,
I have the same problem. My internal mic for recording is somehow disconnected,
including in applications like skype. Using alsamixer and boosting the volume
allows me to hear that the mic is working but that's all I can do with it. And
this since the upgrade to 10.04.
Before pulse, I was
I should have looked here first. Yesterday I posted a question

Hi Daniel,
Is there any news on this bug?
Thanks in advance :)

I had a similar problem (no mic after upgrade to Lucid). I tried to
change various alsamixer settings but finally realised that I actually
just had to use System-Preferences-Sound instead of alsamixer.

Hi Daniel,
It seems that I've found a temporary workaround to this bug.
I've tried all the possible options for snd-hda-intel in /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base.conf and in the end I had some success with options snd-hda-
intel model=toshiba (even if the laptop brand is HP).
In this case the mic

Just to note, IIRC, this bug affects me since Karmic, when g-v-c had its
gui changed to the current one.
If further info is needed I'll be glad to provide it

Got it, thanks.
I've reverted to kernel -21 and installed linux-alsa-driver-modules version
2.6.32-21.201005020600
Unfortunately, that didn't help as I still cannot use the internal mic.
Is there anything else I could try?

I have the same problem, and I believe the cause is this bug. I am on an
Acer Aspire 4535, and the sound card is a realtek alc888, with a clean
install of Ubuntu 10.04 64bit.

fab, l-a-d-m are only built for stable releases and -updates (and when
available, for current devel branch's current kernel). You'll need to
use -21 instead of -22 if you're using Lucid (minor version difference
for Karmic, but you get the idea).

Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work
Hi Daniel,
You could try linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r).
I've added the Ubuntu Audio Dev team PPA to my sources and tried
linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) but it says that there is no package
with that name (please see below).
f...@fab-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install
I think that I've just found out why it says Couldn't find package: it
seems that the latest linux-alsa-driver-modules need to be built (pls
see attachment).
I'll try again later today.
