I experienced this problem on two quite different computers, an IBM Thinkpad R51 and an MSI Wind U130. It occurs when you install Ubuntu from the alternate CD without having an Internet connection during the installation. I have not tested with the live CD. If you have an Internet connection

I have this error on Ubuntu 10.04 on an IBM R51 Thinkpad. PiTiVi was NOT installed manually. One thing, though: The install was from an Alternate CD, not a Live CD. Don't note if that might make a difference, but perhaps. ** Changed in: pitivi (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed --

The workaround in the package description does NOT work for me. If I write this in a terminal before running the program it does work, though: export PYTHONPATH=/usr/lib/pitivi/python Would seem to be necessary to write that in the global environment somewhere to make it work from the menus.

Are you sure you didn't install pitivi manually before or something like that ? This should never happen with 0.13.4 ** Changed in: pitivi (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- The program doesn't start - see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=556851

No, I did not install the program before. I did, however, update Ubuntu from an earlier installation. That may have caused some problems. I don't know if a fresh install would have the same results. It works well with the workaround I described. Jim Holgate Vancouver, BC On 2010-05-06, at
