(10.04) works fine in the text mode (with the alternate CD).
But after reboot the system hangs again. If you are using the vesa driver you
will get your X desktop - but sure with poor performance.

Thanks a lot, but you also have the other problem that comes when updating
on many laptops. Therefore, I will forget 10.04 on this king of laptop. I
can add that Toutou is working cery well on those laptops...

Thanks for your answers.
I went back to 9.10 on the vaio VGN.
With some last updates, in addition to the screen size problem, I got the
ksoftirqd problem that appears on several laptops : you cannot get access to
the system, this process eats all processor and you cannot do anything on
the system.
I can confirm this.
With a standard (md5 checked) 10.04 CD install seems to crash as soon as
the memory stick lights up.
This is also an issue when upgrading from a previous version of ubuntu.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. What exactly do you mean by lighting
these points, also is there any error message shown?

Thanks for answering.
You have Ubuntu being displayed, and, just below,
a row of points that are lighten in sequence.
When the process stops, there is no error message, nothing (the third light,
starting from the left, on the VAIO, below the screen, is lighten, but
currently I do not know the

Hi !
I checked the iso file. No pb (it is the one I used to install Lucid
notebook on my eeePC).
After displaying Ubuntu with fives dots below, the installation stops and
... lights up the indicator telling there is a memory stick ! (the vaio has
a memory stick reader, unused in my case).

Thanks for checking that, I thought it would be good to eliminate simple

Thanks a lot Alex.
I will try this method.
Currently I am installing Lucid notebook !
How :
1. I selected ubuntu with/under XP (I do not remember exactly what was
proposed)
2. installer asked to restart
3. I restarted with the dual boot (xp and ubuntu) and, again, the same
problem
4. I restarted
Hi again !
Lucid notebook now works on my VAIO VGN-T2XP/L.
But :
1. memory stick indicator is lighted up
2. the whole screen is not used (there are two black columns on the sides).
Ubuntu 8.10 desktop used the whole screen.
Best regards
