Hollohead, you can remove the splash for a single boot, to see if the
problem is on plymouth.
Please:
1. Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
2. Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press "e" to edit it.
3. Select the "linux" line and at the end of the line, remove "splash"

Did your laptop boot correctly with 2.6.32-21-generic, the version in

The answer is that it did boot correctly at first so presumably it was
OK with that kernel on my pc, my duaghters was only upgraded in the
first time for months yesterday so I'm not sure about hers. I'm not
sure I want to remove "splash" since it has quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux
and I've had proble
