had the same problem. it seemed an acpi problem at first, but it turned out it was related to my hard drive not being properly detected. if you remove quiet splash from the kernel boot options (in grub) you will see that the last kernel message is Waiting for root filesystem... instead of getting

Hello, I have the same problem with an amd64 socket 939. The motherboard is an asrock dual vista. The message is [17.330722] ACPI: getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x2. When I start boot with -acpi=off, the problem is still the same but the error message doesn't appear. Thanks for support. --
