Jussi,
Your suggested workaround does NOT work with my mobo. The only option
that I've found to work is nolapic. To me this bug does not appear to be
a duplicate since the solutions offered do not work. This is with kernel

Hello,
maybe this is related to this.
I tried the Live CD from Dapper and yesterday from Edgy.
The system boots and comes up (only til CLI but that's another problem). In
"/dev" I see entries for hda, hda1, ... 6 and sda. But no sda1, sda2, ...,
sda15. I have 2 HD-drives. Using 'fdisk -l' all p
The released version of Edgy 6.10 still has the same problem with the
Kernel Panic. I've found a workaround for my motherboard/BIOS
combination by passing the: nolapic parameter to the boot string. This
allows the LiveCD to boot. Hopefully this info will help people.

I don't think this is the spec of the machine as it is considerably over
the minimum spec for the live CD.

I can let it sit longer...although my numlock key doesn't change the
status on my keyboard (which normally means my machine is locked up),
also ctrl+alt+del doesn't reboot.
I'm not by the machine right now, but I will verify a few things later
today. My CD drive is fast, I was able to boot with Da
This doesn't sound like a kernel issue. Sounds to me like it's just
taking awhile for things to boot from the CD (slow cd drive, slow
computer?).
Also sounds like usplash isn't working. Let it sit for awhile.

I will add the output when I get back to the PC.
To answer your other questions:
It does not display an error it locks up right after the splash screen is
displayed. If I boot without the splash the cursor just blinks at the top. I
tried "noacpi" without success.
