We actually now unset the transalations from apt to have more useful
crash logs. Seems to be a negative side effect. Makes sense to create
the messages in aptdaemon instead of just using the raw message from
apt.

The situation improved in Natty, but still not perfect. The string on
the first screenshot is translated now, but the one on the second
screenshot (this comes from libapt-pkg4.10) is still not. When running
the update in Synaptic, this is translated too.

The downloading happens in the main process of aptdaemon. Changing the
locale for the main process could interact with error messages
generated by the daemon for actions of another user. In the trunk
branch there is a mechanism to create error messages in the language
of the transaction. So
Sebastian, could you please review the linked branch? It should fix the
missing i18n for dpkg and download progress.

Those strings are created by the aptdaemon. The problem is that
aptdaemon doesn't switch the language (since it can theoretically used
by several user with different languages.
In the trunk branch each transaction has got its own gettext translation
according to its language. But I am not happy ab
