Phil Bull, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Maverick reached EOL on April 10, 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, could you p
On my Inspiron 1545, hibernate / resume work much better in Natty--
better than Maverick, and probably also better than Lucid. Resume from
hibernate in particular is much faster and smoother than it has ever
been. Time required to hibernate is also quite reasonable. Maverick
would fail to hibernate

My 1545 had this problem with 2.6.35-22. It got much better with updates
23 and 24, but it's still not perfect. Now it *usually* hibernates, but
hibernating takes longer than it used to with Lucid, and sometimes it
still hangs during hibernation.

Seems as though recent updates have resolved this (to a degree). My HP
6730s now hibernates and resumes successfully, but the atombios error
messages are still visible so it doesn't look great.
Can anyone confirm the updates have resolved this issue?

Same as Chris, but with HP G62-222US. Worked in Lucid, but broken in

Same issue here, except the error regarding the looping atombios means
that the computer never shuts down. It hangs on the text until I force
a restart.
