I think this had something to do with /dev/sr0 at one point. I've been trying to install Ub 10.10 and Kub 10.10 and Ub 8.04 to a USB key (and a hard drive) and the first 4 times I tried, it always threw up whenever it tried to read the /dev/sr0 block device, and the install never continued. The

Both of those bugs are duplicates of bug #545911. Did you check if that is the same issue you are having? Does parted crash with the head_size = 63 error on any of your disks? In particular the usb one? ** Changed in: parted (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug

I am affected by this bug after trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 from LiveCD on a 4 GB USB stick in an Asus EeePC 901. I also tried to format the stick with ext3 (using palimpsest to circumvent the gparted bug mentioned in the previous comment). But this did not help. Then I tried to delete the

I've attached a disk dump using dd of the offending usb key. Confirming that deleting the partition using a version of ubuntu prior to 10.04 (gparted would crash in 10.10 and in 10.04 - but that's a separate bug) will allow the installation to proceed. I have included the dd for any developers
