Fixed by changing audio setting manager. The auto-setting was HDA-NVidia
Digital Stero (HDMI). I'm not using an HDMI cable, so I siwtched it to
Internal Audio Analog Stereo. Sound suddenly works, while still being
able to change volume.
** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)
Status: Incomplete
If I re-enable autospawn, the sound shuts off again after relogging.
thus:
echo autospawn = yes ~/.pulse/client.conf
log out
log in
no sound

Title:
I'm not sure I did this correctly, but here are the steps I followed
after turning on my computer:
(login sound plays as screen comes up)
1. I log into my account
2. I turn on Rythembox to verify if sound is working. No sound comes through
speakers.
3. I follow the steps one at a time:
echo
Is the original symptom reproducible if you reenable autospawn?
** Package changed: ubuntu = pulseaudio (Ubuntu)
