with startup disk creator or Unetbootin, of the latest build of Natty from:

upower --monitor-detail > upower.log.txt
reproduce the bug then attach here, using add attachment or patch button below,
the generated file (you can find it in your home with the name upower.log.txt)
and the files:

Similar issue can occur in 10.10 Dell Inspiron 1545; I believe it can be
reproduced by closing the display nearly all the way and hesitating. It
seems the suspend can get caught in a limbo between that and being
active. The power light stays steady and the cooling fan comes on. Open

try a live session of natty downloading from:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/
to see if it is reproducible.
If it works well, please look into the /var/log/syslog file if there is some
power or thermal issue, so you can install the natty's kernel

can you please remove the affected kernel from synaptic and install this:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.37-rc2-maverick/
install on first
linux-headers-2.6.37-020637rc2_2.6.37-020637rc2.201011160905_all.deb
then headers and then image for your architecture.

The first try I had weird errors and even my mouse cursor failed. When I
switched to tty1 I had intermittent error messages like these:
[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
[drm:i915_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_wait_request returns -5
Then I rebooted and reprodu
Can you please reproduce the bug then attach here these files.

Reinstalled gnome-power-manager, no changes. Tried to start X on tty1,
it failed saying that X is already running. (on tty7 the screen is black
but I can see my mouse cursor working)
That's quite annoying! ;~
