@Arnaud: Ubuntu does not have any open outside ports by default. That
makes the attack vector *much* smaller. If firestarter blocks update-
managers check, there is little that update-manager can do about this. I
can not reproduce this here btw.

I have had the same update-manager command line error when trying to
upgrade to Feisty :
warning: could not initiate dbus
could not send the dbus Inhibit signal: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy

these are the error messages generated when I tried to udate a new install of
Ubuntu 6.06 from a CD that I downloaded and burnt myself:

Sebastian: Checking again, I still get the same error when I try to tun
the update...
I checked my internet connection with Firefox and that works fine...I
just updated another machine running 6.10 Edgy Eft and it worked like a
charm...
The version of Ubuntu on the machine that is failing is
Roberto, I guess you are Italian, then maybe your bug is a bit
different: see bug #51419
BTW, I still have the bug referred here at each new update!

Same problem here, launching update-manager from command line, i obtain:
sudo update-manager

Because of no new security fix, I had to downgrade a package (libimlib2)
to reproduce the bug.
