Found a workaround: Install GNOME Alsa Mixer sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer Now open GNOME ALSA Mixer from Applications - Sound Video - GNOME ALSA Mixer Choose the tab: “CA0106…” Turn on “Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack” = Deselect IEC958 That’s it now your sound should work as

I've have the same problem since a kernel update in 10.10 (don't know which one sadly). The soundcard is recognized without errors but any try to play sound fails (e.g. in the test speakers window in the sound preferences). The problem is still there after upgrading to 11.04 beta and even with
