Yes, those two "places" (we are also starting to call them "lenses") are
there by default, and not removable in 11.04. We may well change that in
11.10, so thank you for filing the bug.
Can I suggest you change the bug title to "Apps and Files Lenses should
be removable in the Launcher"?

I'm not talking about the user' icons but about the default UNE icons that
'actually' are just duplicates of the function of the new Ubuntu menu.
At the actual stage a normal user cannot easily remove or drag away this two
icons from the laucher

We deliberately try and preserve folks' launchers during upgrades. So,
