I always use Internal Mic (Built-In, i.e.). Never plugged any external mic in
the laptop.
I just suspect ALSA wrongly guesses recording sliders functions, and then PA
adds its own mess, and they both make me guess it right.

Ok, I managed to somewhat fix this problem by reading

First of all, I blacklisted acer_wmi (for other need actually - to fix
NetworkManager behaviour)
Then I started Skype with environment variable PULSE_SERVER=127.0.0.1
Then I only had to guess what
I do have the same device and am not able to use internal mic for
anything but Gnome Sound Recorder. It seems that only that program is
able to get input from internal mic. Sound Preferences show single input
source with no mic choice and only shows any signal if external
microphone is plugged thro
And btw, reboot back to linux-image-2.6.38-7-generic 2.6.38-7.39 did not
help either.

In Skype test call, I hear only ugly noise when I let Skype adjust
recording level, and silence (or very silent noise) when I disable this
adjustent in Skype and set it at 20..50% by alsamixer (Internal Mic
Boost and Capture levels).
