Note to devs: I suggested Gareth open this report and direct it to gnome-power-manager based on comments he'd added to another report (bug #76557). Based on observations made in that report, it would appear that ACPI does work on this machine, but that gnome-power-manager is either not respecting

Further experiment. Changed the AC power timeouts to 1min and 2min. The computer did not go to standby at that time on ac power or on battery. Aftersomething like 20 or 30 mins (I was cooking so didnt observe!) the screen blanked but the fan remained on and the discs did not spin down. -- ACP
