Upgraded boot-repair and installed boot-repair-common. Than tried using it,
both in the "first repair" mode and in the "second repair". No boot. :(

Successfully removed grub-pc and reinstalled it. I see the following:

I have also tried to reinstall kernel version 10, using the following
commands:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.38-10-generic
sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic
sudo update-grub
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.38-
Another test... I added a background image to grub2, succesfully: fireworks.jpg
(transformed the xpm included in the package).
But now, after the two error messages ("cannot read linux header" and "you need
to load kernel first") I obtain, after pressing a key and before returning to
