Nope. This is the portion form my current dmesg log (in Feisty), which is just
a bit different that what Gutsy logged, but essentially the same. My Kingston
5G pcmcia HD is being recognized but not getting set up for access.

Maybe we should change the status to new and unassigned and see what
happens? ;) I don't know, but this bug isn't going anywhere. I'd love
to help see it fixed.

Last night, I booted both, Kubuntu Dapper Drake LiveCD and later,

entries to the /etc/fstab for it, run sudo mount -a and I had access to
the device.

My Toshiba 2GB PCMCIA hard drive (MK2001MPL/PA3079U) is not listed after
boot, nor after a hotplug. There are two entries in dmesg, shown here:
"ata3.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x1)
ata3: failed to recover some devices, retrying in 5 secs"
and the two lines are repeated again after 5
Could you try adding libata to the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist file and
regenerating the initramfs using:
mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd.img-`uname -r` `uname -r`
And rebooting?
Hopefully this will force it to use the old IDE drivers instead of the
libata ones.
Cheers,
Kyle
