Michaël Van Dorpe (michael-vandorpe), thank you for reporting this and
helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there
hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is
still an issue? If so, you may be having a kernel oops or an xorg crash.
Could you
Standard 64 bit Oneiric here, regularily updated, no custom kernel. Just
one more freeze ever since my last post. Cleaning up hidden files and
folders in /home really helped on my system.

I now have almost three hours uptime, without any freezes, with the
following kernel:

I've been using my Windows 7 partition for a couple of weeks now - every
time I boot Ubuntu the freeze returns. I have some more time to test
now. I successfully installed the daily mainline kernel build, but it
did not boot. I will try the release candidate now.

A few days ago I cleaned up a little bit my /home partition, after quite
some time. Since then I got just one freeze, while I was logged into
Gnome Shell. No problems in Unity since then. It's not even a week
passed, so I can't say for sure, but I guess it could have been for some
obsolete user
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the release
candidate kernel versus the daily build. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel,
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Frequent freezes in oneiric

It happens to me, too. But pretty randomly. Sometimes it works fine for
hours, and sometimes it freezes after 5 minutes. And I just can't figure
out what is triggering it...

It's happening again twice, immediately when I log on to Ubuntu (unity).
The first time, I could still move the mouse, the second time I could
not even do that... In both cases, only the SysRq sequence helped me
out.

Bugs,
This system dual boots with Windows 7, which runs fine. Therefore, it is
not a hardware problem.
Since my previous comment, it happened again, about 15 minutes in an
ubuntu classic section.
