Hi all.. good news! It seems that all i needed to do was update the
bios. Now it is all working great. I updated bios within windows xp.

@Christopher, I've not been able to install Quantal to the hard drive as
the system freezes when I try to install from the live cd. The wifi on
the live CD does work however.

Scott Hosking, glad to hear the wifi works on the Quantal Live CD. As a
WORKAROUND for the Quantal Live CD install problem, can you upgrade from
Precise to Quantal following

and report the results of the WiFi?

To load the live cd acpi=off needs to be added to the boot options...
Do you currently have to use this WORKAROUND to boot after you have
installed Ubuntu 11.10 and/or 12.04?

@Christopher yes, acpi=off needs to be added to both the Ubuntu 11.10
AND the 12.04 Live CD. However, it works fine (without any non-default
boot options) with the 12.10 beta 2 live CD

Scott Hosking, glad to hear you do not have to use the WORKAROUND in
Quantal. I asked about this because we may be dealing with problems of
problems (ex. you use your kernel WORKAROUND and you have problems like
wifi, etc.).
Hence, do you still have the WiFi troubles in Quantal?
