I doubt this is related to the video driver in use. I am suffering this
problem frequently on Hardy (updated to almost-8.04.1) and on an Intel
i915GMS (using xserver-xorg-video-intel).
Note that gtk-gnash keeps eating away CPU in the background, even if
Firefox has been quit long ago. "killall gtk
Hardy version of gnash still have this problem.
Putting back to confirmed, since it is also available on intel graphics.

I've experienced this today on AMD 5600+ X2 machine with nVidia
propretory drivers on 8600GT graphics with Fiesty 64 bit. 84% CPU on
gnash process ( all available ) makes everything run very very slow.
