OK, I feel confident to say this issue is now gone for me.
I'll check back in tomorrow and confirm.
My guess is that something was "fixed" in the latest updates (via
"proposed" archive)

Some feedback folks. After running this mornings updates and also muting
all sound and closing Empathy, gnome-shell seems stable. Now which of
these three things has helped I don't know. Will run as is till lunch
and then try enabling sound and Empathy and see how it goes. I took a
wild shot in the
Might this be related to the latest pulseaudio update? I noticed several
crashes after doing an unsuccessful search in Epiphany (which results in
a "bump" sound being emitted). I might be over-analyzing though :)

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.sound event-sounds false
Out of a hunch looking at the backtrace.

Actually, when I said that sometimes it doesn't happen while in the
overview, that's because sometimes it happens when closing the last open
window, which actually triggers the overview.

Freezes for me pretty much on every other switch to another workspace.
Now I wonder, how do you debug that? Is there any output anywhere? Which
packages were updated yesterday?
I tried with ricotz/testing PPA as well, same thing.

I get this bug too, but it seems to happen quite randomly, and not
always in the overview. As for the reporter, I began showing this only
hours ago, after an upgrade or Precise.
