I did download those firefox files via my browser but, I can't get
Ubuntu's Software Manager nor its Update Manager to take them. With
Mandriva Linux, its RPM Manager does effortlessly take any such update
files downloaded from the web. I have learned to rely on or to just
use RPM only to do
Well you can download the file to your desktop and then run the dpkg
command like this:
sudo dpkg -i /path/to/file
That should install it.

It did install:

Preparing to replace firefox-mozilla-build 9.0.1-0ubuntu1 (using
so, I downloaded via browser
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt/pool/main/f
/firefox-mozilla-build/firefox-mozilla-build_10.0.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
and then ran sudo dpkg -i firefox-mozilla-build_10.0.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
and Update Manager now says that there is no
downloading problem failed to fetch via Update Manager still was not
solved though. The workaround did work.

I would suggest taking that source off your list. The one provided in
launchpad is compatible. There is one for a stable firefox and an unstable.
