This happened to me when I tried to play a video with AC3 sound.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

I have re-installed precise on 2 different PC's and this issue has not
re-occured. The codec app did pop up BEFORE I installed ubuntu-
restricted-extras. I think I tried to go with what the default options
were ticked and again had these above mentioned errors.
But after I installed restricted
I think the application is called gnome-codec-install.
A workaround in the meantime would be to manually install by opening a
command prompt and typing:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
and:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
This should fetch the correct architectural

Is there any progress on this bug. It's beta 2 now and still unable to
install half of codecs required:
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad:i386

I have got mostly the same issue but I wasn't able to install ffmpeg not
gstreamer problem.
I solved MY issue this way
TO FIX THIS BUG
So the order of fixing ffmpeg installation.
1) Add repository sudo add-apt-repository ppa:n-muench/vlc
2) Run update and install VLC 2.0 sudo apt-get update
Have exactly the same issue.
Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit version.

Hello, I too have been having this issue for quite some time now. Been
using VLC in the meantime. features are frozen now, on to the bug
hunting. I am fully updated and still having this issue.

Hi and thanks for reporting this issue.
I attempted to reproduce this by attempting to install the package in
Ubuntu Precise, however it installed without encountering any problems.
Could you please refresh your package lists and try to install it again?
