FWIW: The problem reported here is still present when the user installs
and switches to xfce desktop from the originally installed Unity on
Ubuntu 19.10. To fix this, user will have to uninstall notify-osd
package manually and reboot.

Moving the issue to thunar, as this is a thunar bug, as notify OSD in
case of notifications with multiple possible actions falls back to
dialog boxes. Quoting from the NotifyOSD specifications : If actions is
supplied and/or expire_timeout is set to “0”, the notification should be

Sorry, I won't patch thunar for that. What thunar does is perfectly
fine, there's no real bug here. Notify-osd decided on its own to behave
like that for non-expiring notifications.
In this case, flushing data to the drive before eject/unmount can take a
very long time, that's why the expiration
Ok, so the NotifyOSD specifications say that non-expiring messages should be
displayed as an alert box.
Also, two buttons are needed even if the application registered no actions to
the notification because some applications rely on this.
Is it also a design decision not to close the alert box
