Its working again...
On a different machine also running feisty with a later nVidia video card, I
noticed that the latest update reverted the nvidia-glx package to 1.96xx, so I
decided to try to enable it again on my laptop. I reinstalled nvidia-glx,
rebooted, and it works correctly, with deskto
I need to mention the Feisty beta problems I note above are with the Live CD.
Edgy final is still installed on my system.

I have an XFX brand nvidia 7800GT 256 MB AGP 8x card that uses a bridge
chip to convert it from PCI-e to AGP.
This card also does not correctly hardware detect in either Edgy final
or Feisty beta.
It is shown in xorg.conf as "generic video card" and results in the vesa
driver being installed by d
Just a note - I don't know if this is useful or not. I used the package
below to get the nvidia driver, and it works to an extent (on the same
Dell D800 reported above). I don't know if it was something that the bug
fix requires as a workaround, or if I'm still supposed to use nvidia-
glx.

This goes for the card in my Latitude D800 laptop too. This is a pretty
decent machine still and there have to be a lot of them out there...

Now the restricted Driver's Manager detects that I need propriety
software, but when it installs the driver X will not restart.
Judging by the output my card may need the legacy driver. I have
attached the whole X log file too:
