This happened to me for no obvious reason, was not downloading a file,
computer had just booted and was sitting on the desktop. and am using
ext3, not XFS so thats not the likely culprit

This happened to me when I had a directory of unfinished bittorrent
media and the thumbnailer was trying to process the media files in
konqueror.

The bad stack trace may be down to /usr/bin/gnome-video-thumbnailer being a
symlink to /etc/alternatives/gnome-video-thumbnailer which is a symlink to
/usr/bin/totem-video-thumbnailer . Running
gdb --core=CoreDump /usr/bin/totem-video-thumbnailer
