Maybe you just misunderstood me. I know Edgy use upstart, and I can see
messages in the usplash screen if I use the following boot enrties in
the menu.lst file:

memtest86+ says memory is ok. The problem exists in the standard Ubuntu-
kernel, and only with the 'arcmsr'-module (I use an Areca-raid-
controller). I installed on a stand-alone harddisk, built a custom
kernel (vanilla 2.6.17 + areca-patch from mm-tree). After that I
partitioned my Areca-raid-volu
if it's already fixed on rosetta it'll be fixed for edgy, language packs
are going to be updated before edgy

Dunno. Bug report was for Breezy.
Nowadays I run Dapper plus latest kernel.org kernel, and custom
suspend/resume script, and all is well. No idea if it works "out of the
box" or not.

Since I upgraded to edgy, wireless assitant does not connect to any
ESSID. I choose a network and it says "connection failed". Then I go to
the command line and do "sudo ifup wlan0" and the connection comes up.

Exactly, well, not exactly, but I'd give it a >95% correlation that X on
fgconsole when rmmod e1000 is typed will cause a panic shortly
thereafter, noting that the rmmod itself does complete successfully and
exits, it's a short time afterwards (long enough for the suspend scripts
to chvt typically)
