I think I was able to reproduce this, but the start_tls errors were
intermittent. I'm testing on an P3 448MHz, and initially had the error
quite frequently. I then updated all the packages on the system and the
error became less frequent. I also updated the slapd indexes to match
our production

I had made an upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 and the bug was occurring as I
mentioned earlier. But then I decided to reinstall 8.04 from scratch
with a new user and after I installed all of the available upgrades, now

I like the idea of making the dialog boxes 'louder' as the requested
privilege escalates. The 'cancel/allow' option is a terrible idea though
(see win-Vista), people will just get used to clicking on 'allow' to get
their game going. Password input should always be required.

Hmm, server and desktop flavours of hardy may be different in terms of
which sources they enabled by default.
Check if you have both universe and multiverse enabled in
/etc/apt/sources.list. If not, add them, then 'apt-get update', then try
again.

When compiling kernel in kvm guest Xubuntu, it freezes in the middle of
the compilation. When trying to pause/resume the guest in virt-manager,
virt-manager stops responding.

The same error occurs, but '/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r' returns nothing.
My steps:
1) Ran '/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r' on the command line
2) Put in two blank DVD-Rs in both my DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM drives
3) Went to 'Places > Blank DVD-ROM Disc' and the same error appeared.
4) Went back to the command line

'sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg' ran fine, but accomplished only
reducing my resolution to 800x600. The xorg.conf file was nice and
clean however, and I just put the modelines in that one. I still have
to start Xorg manually with 'gdm'.
