Ok, I just tried the top link (the patch) on Hardy 8.04.1 X86_64 (using
dpkg -i --force-architecture) (semantic still wasn't working), then
installed the package semantik (through Synaptic) over it, and it works.
Weird, but good.

I have the same problem with a ACER Aspire 6920.
I can't get alsa to work even by compiling the latest sources (Ubuntu
8.04 64bit) and I tried almost all "model" kernel options, with no

This is effectively a bug. For many users, it sufficiently fouls things
up that they will conlude an Ubuntu installation has failed. For others
such as myself, it merely wasted a lot of time.

The iTCO_wdt error is due to module iTCO_wdt . This drivers should not be
loaded automatically, but only if a watchdog daemon is installed.
To get rid of this error at boot time add the line "blacklist iTCO_wdt" to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-watchdog
