I can also confirm that I have the same problem. I upgraded from
kubuntu 9.04 before the upgrade I had kde as my main desktop and gnome
installed as a secondary desktop environment. After the upgrade I don't
have gnome so I tried to install it from repositories and have received
the same errors.
On that basis alone, this should be left confirmed, but tagged as a
possible future regression, especially as you say, if this is not solved
by the time Lucid is released, unless Lucid uses the same upstart
services as Karmic.

No conversion occurs. It just says converting... but nothing happens! I
never had any problems with convertall in previous Ubuntu versions. BTW
I use Ubuntu 9.10

Well when I was talking about blacklisting the ipv6 module (that is not
a module anymore, but anyway) it was talking about a configuration
option (like on RH system) to easily prevent the loading of the module
on boot, but I was not talking about blacklisting it _by default_ (as
I'm also a big IPv6

I am seeing a similar behavior when trying to unlock on Karmic today. I
had to kill the keyring daemon from the console (ctlr+alt+F1). I have
seen it twice today. I am not sure it is relevant here.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Lock the screen - ctrl + alt + 'L'
2. Try to unlock the screen with possibly
this bug still exists in 9.10. tested against stock instance of
jackrabbit.
