It's not still an issue for me, since I haven't had to use the force_io=1
option for a while. I don't know about the module searching priority; could
just be that modprobe simply takes the first module it finds. I think my point

I had this problem as well. I upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic to Lucid
today. I had held off on upgrading to Karmic due to the backlight
cycling bug in Karmic. Once in Jaunty, I had no volume control and had
to find this thread to find out what happened.
The problem with the indicator applet as

its over reaction when a button that is actively used is then removed from the
interface is not constructive.

After using Firefox system freezes completely. This happens after 10min
or sometimes even just after 2 hours. I also suspected the ath9k-driver.
My wlan chip is AR9220, which is basically the PCI version of AR9280:

@Dieter: Does the workaround actually work for you? I had tried that but
it didn't solve the problem for me.
Anyway, as a replacement try using "motion" (also in the repos). Just a

Ok, I found the source of the problem.
I found a notebook I named with a character that the file system can't
decode. Renaming it to something else, and re-indexing solve the
problem.

OK, thanks for the feedback.
So, language-selector should scan each locale for its encoding and ignore those
locales which are not using UTF-8 as encoding.
Currently this selection is not done, as it assumes we only have UTF-8 locales
on the system. Since the user is still able to mess around wit

Confirmed for ubuntu-10-04/lucid lynx - thunar shows my new icon for Excel and
Powerpoint but not for Word.
Nautilus and the GNOME Desktop do not show the freshly associated types.

I had not realised I was criticising you so very personally as to provoke
that outburst.
Perhaps it is you who misunderstand. The current workaround for this bug is
to disable compiz. But, one has to ask, and this is my point: Why should
compiz even have the opportunity of breaking workspaces?
