Sorry for the delay. The PPC version of 12.10 has been taking my time
over the past few days.
Looks like the only difference (see attached screen shot) is the efi
file, which of course, explains why it won't boot on this Intel MacBook.

machine wakes up from sleep or whet X.org restarts the brightness goes

fixing a bug in what's supposed to be 6-month-old "LTS" release. I see

Hi all. A revised version of the patch has been accepted upstream (3.5
and 3.6) as commit 86e6b77eb7cf9ca2e9c7092b4dfd588f0a3307b6. I'm
attaching the final patch for 3.6-stable.

A stack trace would not help in the free() because it's a delayed effect
from earlier heap corruption.
All - Please try this to produce a better crash report that will help us
find the root cause of the problem:

This is claimed to have been fixed in unity 6.4.0, but I still see it.

For me it behaves slightly differently than for Pieter (I'm using Damien
Cassou's snapshots as well):
If I start emacs24 the menu gets displayed as global app menu. In
contrast to that, there's no global app menu (but instead a "local" one
in the window) when running emacs, emacsclient or emacscli

X works fine but during boot, shutdown, and any other time the machine
is in text mode, the monitor displays "input signal out of range, change
settings to 1440x900."
