I have just found a workaround by chance: purging xserver-xorg-video-
nouveau (without replacing it by a Nvidia driver) from the system
removes the freezing issue during shutdown!

Re-flashed phone again for other reasons. Added Google accounts, enabled
contact sync. Later enabled Calendar sync after installing calendar and

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this bug. Thanks for setting

Not sure if this will help but the start of my /etc/default/grub looks
like this:

Just rebooted with a screen on it and it reboot with out touching the
keyboard.

Having applied all the recommended fixes and reset my settings to the
defaults, I can now resume after suspend, but the screen is black, and I
must type in my password blindly. I guess it'll have to be xscreensaver
for me.
