Not intentionally. The efi partition has to be HFS+ for ubuntu to get
installed on my mac book. If there is way to reformat the partition to
R/W I can do that, I am unaware of how to properly back up the /boot/efi
so that my system won't become unusable.

I have this on the armhf production autopkgtest machines, but I wasn't
aware that it is a general problem. These still run an ancient kernel
(3.13) under wily userspace. But it seems it happens under a full wily
amd64 too then.
