I am using RAW images for all my VMs and have seen this behavior.
Interestingly, I ran a flatten command against and affected volume and
it was repaired quite quicky. YMMV.

Had same issue fixed it with @JT fix but I had to install libvirt first
`sudo apt install qemu-kvm libvirt-bin`
Add group=kvm in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf
Add yourself to the kvm group `sudo usermod -a -G kvm $USER`
I rebooted for good measure and now vm's start up

I'm using KDE on Arch Linux, but I'm also experiencing the exact same
situation, and have been for months. I tend to leave my systems running
24/7 and often notice one or more sftp.so processes in top taking up
significant CPU resources. I did notice the CPU usage is worse when my
Dolphin sftp
I should also mention that I tend to kill the sftp.so processes with
signal 15 when they act up, and they seem to eventually respawn on their
own, but I'm not sure whether that is by system restart or something
else (I haven't tracked it in that much detail).

Or put Soundtouch into our ppa.
IMO that should only be done in extreme circumstances. It would be
better to work with Ubuntu to update their Soundtouch package. Fedora 28
is shipping Soundtouch 2.0. Arch is as well.

This is due to the fact that you have installed some packages from the
Ubuntu toolchain PPA and they provide a greater version of the package
than the one in Ubuntu 18.04, the release to which you are trying to
upgrade. Please use the tool ppa-purge to remove that PPA and downgrade
to the
update-manager (1:18.10.2) cosmic; urgency=medium
* Fix my spelling mistake in the previous upload. Oops.
