[Bug 53703] Crashed when adding partition and creating XFS FS.

2006-07-22 Thread Mike.x
Public bug reported:

This may be related to bug 46839 (not sure).

Basically, the installer crashed while it was re-creating the partition and
creating an XFS file system on it.
I manually created using fdisk and mkfs.xfs. And will re-start installation.

[Bug 53705] Touchpad input support needs bolstering.

2006-07-22 Thread Michael T. Richter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

This for Dapper 6.06 LTS.

Synaptics support is installed by default in Dapper now (a step up from
Breezy), but has the following shortcomings:

1) SHMConfig is not turned on by default in xorg.conf, making it hard to
adjust if you don't know about that particular little bit of Mystic
Incantationtm

2) The tools for adjusting Synaptics support by default are CLI-oriented
and not particularly user-friendly.

The following solutions could be used in the short term:

1) If a Synaptics touchpad is detected at all when configuring xorg,
turn on SHMConfig right away.

2) For KDE desktops, ksynaptics should be a supported, automatically-
loaded package.

3) For other desktops, qsynaptics should be a supported, automatically-
loaded package.

(Ksynaptics and qsynaptics are pretty small packages.)

A longer-term solution would be to build in the functionality of
k/qsynaptics into the System-Preferences-Mouse applet. Such a program
should allow users to quickly and easily turn off Synaptics support (to
prevent typing irritations) and should allow adjustments to the various
facets of Synaptics support (scrolling, multi-finger taps, et al) as
provided by the external programs. Ideally a hot-key to turn the
support on and off, as per SCIM and input methods, would be perfection
on a stick.

[Bug 53706] EDGY: numerous gtk2 errors with serveral apps. this one is gdesklets

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-common

##Possible Edgy Bug

I have experienced several issues with gtk2 on edgy. I have posted
previous bug reports on nicotine and gtkpod. This one is on gdesklets.
I think the problem lies inside something to do with python and gtk2.0,
because every app log / verbose output reports something based on gtk2.0

[Bug 53709] Exclude webcollage from the xscreensaver packages

2006-07-22 Thread Olivier Poulet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xscreensaver-data-extra

While webcollage in itself is amusing, it all too often displays sexually
explicit content.
In a business environment, such content is seldom regarded as appropriate, and
may also lead to serious problems for an unsuspecting user. webcollage may also
trigger firewall/filtering rules that report inappropriate activity.
For a family environment, webcollage's behaviour is also rather inappropriate,
as the retrieved pictures are too often of shocking nature for children, and
may hurt or offend the sensibilities of certain users.

webcollage should be packaged separately from the xscreensaver packages,
with an explicit warning of its behaviour.

test `cat $DEVICE/device/power/state` -eq 0 || return

It should be this:

test `cat $DEVICE/device/power/state` -eq 0 || return

to solve the Checking battery state...-problem.

On some systems booting stops with this messages. The cat command cannot
reads the given file because ../device/.. is a symlink.

[Bug 53711] Re: missing quotationmarks

2006-07-22 Thread Andreas Nitsche
It's more than this quotationmarks:

I've an Interface in my system called ?0. This interface is not
recognized right and therefore it goes into the cat command line. I
worked around this with a regex:

for DEVICE in /sys/class/net/[a-zA-Z]* ; do

This is now my line 7 in state-funcs.

It could be a solution for normal use of device names.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

If there are non-Windows compatible files while burning a large amount
of files to a DVD (or CD) the cd-burner gives a message saying that
some of the files are not Windows compatible.

While this is very nice there's no way to list the files in question
through the GUI. The program expects me to search through a very large
amoun of files.

It would be nice if there was a button See details to see the files in
question.

system installed on my PC running the same kernel and hal version is not
affected at all.

[Bug 33968] Re: dhclient fails when not using UTC in hwclock

2006-07-22 Thread Sander van Loon
I'm worried about the amount of attention this bug receives from the
developers. I thought Dapper was supposed to be a long term support
release? Martin Pitt's (the assignee for this bug) last reply was two
months ago, with the question if there are still people having huge
problems with this in Dapper.

Well, Dapper still doesn't display the correct time here, which is a
critical problem for me. I would really appreciate it if this could be
fixed.

Richard Hughes produced a patch to correct the problem that g-p-m thinks
that my laptop drains the battery with 4.6 kW. I applied it to edgy’s
hal source and it works.

Binary package hint: xfce

Hello

I have the problem that Xubuntu (edgy eft) does not accept my password
on the xfce desktop in order to gain access to the system. It is not
possible for me to make any changes as it is only possible to type the
passowrd one time. Any further attemp to type it again chose the text-
box:

the password is incorrect
I should try to type it again and so on.

But I am not able to do so.

The password is accepted when loggin on to the desktop, but it is
rejected on the desktop itself

Funny, isn't it, that the functionality is implemented for restricted

according to apt-cache policy you don't have a dapper-updates source
at the moment which is creating your issue since you install
libglib2.0-0 from a dapper-updates source previously, that's not a bug,
closing it. Activating a dapper-updates apt source will fix your issue

[Bug 53727] update-grub fails if no *-kdump files

2006-07-22 Thread Tormod Volden
Public bug reported:

edgy knot-1 (grub 0.97-11ubuntu6):
update-grub fails and stops with ls: /boot/*-kdump: No such file or directory
and /boot/grub/menu.lst is therefore not updated.

Since the update-grub script has -e set, the failing ls makes the
script abort.

[Bug 53727] Re: update-grub fails if no *-kdump files

2006-07-22 Thread Tormod Volden
This patch just adds || true after the ls, so that the script can go
on in case of missing kdump files, and successfully update menu.lst.

[Bug 9068] Re: Serial mice are not autodetected

2006-07-22 Thread Witold Bołt
Well as I see it's quite an old bug, so I just want to say that today I
wanted to try out my brand new, cool looking (sent from Canonical)
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS CD ... I put it in, boot the system - I see the desktop
and that's it - since my old Logitech serial mouse is NOT working, I'm
not able to use the system. Ok. I'm quite advanced Linux user - I know
that I can edit xorg.conf, or use some other console tools to configure
the mouse. It's not so difficult - and I did it many times in old
Slackwares;) But hey ... my Windows XP made no problems with that mouse
- it just worked.

I think such small elements make the big picture of the whole system.
Why Joe User doesn't like Linux? Mayby becouse he still (after so many
years of development) needs to grab the console and cast some magic
spells to make his mouse just work.

Anyway Ubunut is a greate distro ... ;) and I use it on couple of
machines.

[Bug 30796] Re: add edgy syntax highlighting to sources.list

fix should add:
dapper + edgy + -security + -updates

restricted + universe + multiverse

to the vim syntax highlighting, so this might get fixed in edgy, but probably
not dapper :)
