[Bug 201799] Re: Confusing mysqld startup failure with apparmor (Hardy)

2009-06-28 Thread Aisthesis
Just had the same issue and followed the steps provided by Lost In
Tokyo. This did not work for me. I then followed the steps by Kees Cook.
Working fine with it disabled.

I spent at least 3 hours trying to figure out what the cause of the
issue was. My logs are identical, except I am moving the data to another
drive mounted on the system. This is on Jaunty.

In addition to apparmor disallowing mysql user to write to other
directories, it also is preventing the memlock option from working which
forces mysql to use additional system memory instead of the disk for
buffers, etc, greatly increasing performance.

However, before that time, it was decided that at the very least the
packages need to be renamed to reflect the change from Fedora directory

Why have you never requested to work on the upstream debian packaging

waste of effort and time (be it debian or ubuntu).

[Bug 27463] Re: [needs-packaging] Fedora Directory Server for Ubuntu

2009-06-28 Thread Leung, Kai-Cheung
I had a chat with David Sugar (I believe he is a staff member from
Canonical). He suggests us to form a dedicated team to set up and
maintain the 389 directory server.

I have just done that and now we have got a new team called Ubuntu 389
Directory Server Team

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-389-directory-server

I have added:

Timothy Pearson (the Ubuntu packager)
David Sugar (Canonical staff(?), also a REVU reviewer)
Michele Baldessari (Debian 389 maintainer)

to this team.

Also this team now has a centralized ppa. So it would be nice if we can
port Timothy's ppa to the team ppa, with the correct name changes etc. At
the same time, Michele can make sure that this ppa compiles in the Debian
testing suite and get 389 accepted in Debian as well. In this way, the
team ppa will centralize the development of both Ubuntu and Debian port at
once.

I have just applied for an email list for this team and it is waiting for
approval. David, would you be able to approve the team email list?

Cheers,

kcleung

P.S. Apart from the package name changes, we should transfer the
maintainer of the packages from Timothy Pearson to Ubuntu 389 Directory
Server Team so that this project is now managed by the whole team.

[Bug 393226] [NEW] Impossible to rename a podcast using non-ASCII characters

2009-06-28 Thread Evgeny Kuznetsov
Public bug reported:

In a podcast's properties there's a field named Title, which is
available for editing and allows changing podcast's name into something
convenient. The problem is, only ASCII characters can be used in this
field.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Right-click on any podcast (left panel of gpodder's main window), select
Edit from the context menu.
2. Put something non-ASCII in the Title field (I use cyrillics, but symbols
like ä or å are sufficient to reproduce the bug).
3. Click the Close button.

Result: the properties window won't close. It can be closed by clicking
X button in window's header, but then the new title does not apply
(and doesn't survive gpodder's restart). More than that, the podcast in
question can not be updated until gpodder is restarted.

Expected behaviour: the properties window closes, podcast has new title
in the left panel of the main window. Expected behaviour can be observed
if only ASCII characters are used in step 2.

Bug spotted on gPodder 0.14.0 in Ubuntu 9.04 64bit.

[Bug 208548] Re: en_SE locale needed to get correct weekdays in Sweden

2009-06-28 Thread AbtZ
If you boil it down, the most glaring issue here is the fact that the
Gnome Panel development team decided to remove the possibility to set
the first day of the week from the Calendar preferences. Why they did so
is anyone's guess, it is a desirable feature and removing is a pretty
stupid idea. Then again, dumbing things down too much has always been
one of the greater problems with Gnome.

If anyone could point me to a place where this can be discussed with the
developers, I would appreciate it greatly.

In the general case, I hope the GUI tool discussed above will be in Karmic,
because this is an issue that affects a lot more people than one would think.

[Bug 393230] [NEW] Sound goes like a skipping CD and then cuts out completely

2009-06-28 Thread Jonathan Sargant
Public bug reported:

It can be when I'm using any sound-related application - VLC, Firefox,
Mplayer - the sound won't come out right but will sound like a very
quickly-skipping CD. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, and other
times after it's done it for a while the sound just dies completely.

It also occasionally does it with the drum roll on the login page, so
the drums continue for as long as I'm logged in to Ubuntu.

I'm using version 9.04.

[Bug 393236] [NEW] LiveCD displays gdm auto-login after 10 seconds screen instead of just logging in automatically

2009-06-28 Thread Someone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The LiveCD displays gdm auto-login after 10 seconds screen instead of just
logging in automatically.
Which might confuse users making them to try and type in the username/password
box, thereby delaying the auto-login and confusing them more.

I know gdm has the ability to auto-login without any countdown, since
this option is available under its configuration dialog and is also
offered during installation of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu version:
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

Package version:
gdm:
  Installed: 2.20.10-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.20.10-0ubuntu2
  Version table:

What you expected to happen:
I expected Ubuntu LiveCD to auto-login without displaying a gdm auto-login
screen.

What happened instead:
The LiveCD displayed a gdm auto-login screen, which may confuse the user.

Re: [Bug 393115] Re: banshee multiple .desktop files should have different Name=

2009-06-28 Thread Chris Coulson
On Sun, 2009-06-28 at 15:51 +, Nicolò Chieffo wrote:
Do you mean that they mimetype based desktop entries don't have to be
listed in the open with dialog?
This is in my opinion wrong, because open with should list all
different actions, not only the default one

That's not what I said. The Open with dialog is only really useful as
a catch-all if a buggy application doesn't identify itself as supporting
a particular mimetype. It already lists every launchable desktop file.
All handlers for a particular mimetype should be listed in the Open
with- submenu, and there will be only a single entry for each
application.

With the audio CD case, right clicking on the CD icon should show Open
with Banshee in the Open with- submenu. Because the particular
mimetype will only appear in one of Banshee's desktop files, then only
one entry will appear here. This is correct already - all the user cares
about here is opening their audio CD with Banshee.

What you're proposing is renaming the desktop files for every single
application to make each separate action identifiable in the open with
dialog box. So, in the audio CD case, I would end up with right-clicking
on the CD icon, and navigating to Open with - Open with Banshee (Play
audio CD). That is plain wrong IMO.

If you're having to navigate to the Open with dialog on a frequent
basis, then the application that you're using is broken, and should be
fixed to add the additional supported mimetypes to its desktop file.

[Bug 278810] Re: Doesn't always display suspend / hibernate options (race between g-p-m and f-u-s-a?)

2009-06-28 Thread Mr. Norel
I have a similar problem on karmic.
After updating there are only entries for Guest session, Lock screen, Log
out..., Restart... and Shutdown... in the user switcher.

-Hibernate was available in the fusa after installation of karmic-alpha2 and
worked ok.
-Hibernate works fine If I log out and klick on hibernate in the menu of gdm.
-My swap is a lvm2 logical volume on a luks partition.
-I already tried to add resume=/dev/mapper/ubuntu-swap to the kernel options.
This was the thing to do with Archlinux but doesn't seem to work here.

this still does not work. I just did a fresh install which has a Intel

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-06-28 Thread J
Reading some of the latest post I got a brilliant idea how to solve this
problem.

How about introducing a new panel to nautilus which shows some
information about the selected file allows for editing the file name.
It could be a small panel under the left column or below the main view.

A new panel wouldn't need a special setting, just a new CheckButton
under the menu View.

Even I could probably make something simple like this.

Added a manipulated screenshot showing the extra panel.
Original picture taken from nautilus web site.

[Bug 382379] Re: pdftops CUPS filter has several problems

2009-06-28 Thread Till Kamppeter
(1) (and also bug 229981) seems to be a bug in HP's PostScript
interpreters. It did not occur with my printers (HP LaserJet 3390,
P3005, Color LaserJet CM3530 MFP, probably they are too new). As long as
the printouts come out correctly, simply ignore it.

For (2) not the CUPS package is the culprit but the cups-pdf package
which makes CUPS performing unneeded filter detours. See bug 385709.
This I have fixed in Karmic.

(3) shows that the original issue for which this bug was opened is fixed
for you.

None of the above problems deals with a scanned image or 80-page
document. Is there any additional problem with these kinds of documents
if you actually print them (not print them to PDF)?

[Bug 390189] Re: Kde shutdown dialog is delayed when compositing enabled

2009-06-28 Thread Martin Gräßlin
To be precise: the fade animation takes exactly two seconds. But it does
not delay the shutdown dialog as the title of this bug reports says.
It is just an animation shown when the shutdown dialog is shown.

Making it configurable would be a simple task, but I'm not sure if this
needs a config dialog. As I doubt that users know that the fade during
logout is done by kwin effects I fear they would not find the config
dialog.

[Bug 362186] Re: Spurious lines on print outs

2009-06-28 Thread Till Kamppeter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 382379 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/382379

If you do the update, you get the fix immediately and you can report to
us whether it actually helped. Otherwise the update will get an official
update which will get installed automatically in the next days as we
have already a lot of positive feedback on the test packages. If someone
finds a regression, we will most probably do corrections (we did so once
already) on the package but under no circumstances give up this update.

[Bug 393240] [NEW] Samsung Q210 - No released events on brightness change

2009-06-28 Thread SteveB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-info

In reply to the original bug report:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal-info/+bug/52

The brightness keys make the brightness go up and down, but when using
input-events, there is no released event for either key:

21:36:42.979320: EV_KEY KEY_BRIGHTNESSUP (0xe1) pressed
21:36:42.979325: EV_SYN code=0 value=0
21:36:43.266034: EV_MSC code=4 value=137
21:36:43.266064: EV_KEY KEY_BRIGHTNESSDOWN (0xe0) pressed
21:36:43.266068: EV_SYN code=0 value=0
21:36:43.619331: EV_MSC code=4 value=176

The result, is that when the brightness is turned down, it goes right
down to zero or vise versa. The keyboard then becomes locked and I need
to switch to the console and back to the desktop to fix it.

Thanks
