This is really an annoying bug, but I'm a bit lost on how to approach
it. For example, we could hardcode a check on 'print' being on the line
to avoid triggering the autocall behavior, but that would break
legitimate use of autocall for users of print as a function...

1. Logout no longer turns off the backlight permanently - the login screen
turns it on
2. CTRL-ALT-F1 does, but CTRL-ALT-F7 turns it on again - the system is usable

UPDATE: Since the new kernel didn't show up in the grub boot menu I
tried to do update-grub by hand. It was worse.
update-grub insists in maintaining a menu.lst and seems to ignore

I found the problem.
id -un return the username with length > 9 characters.
pgrep "grep" based in only 9 characters.

In my Toshiba Tecra R10 the X-Server switches off the LCD backlight and
I can't switch to a console with CTRL+ALT+F1.
Also, after one logout, I can no longer login because it never lights up
again. Keyboard still works, and I can work blind.

what it really is: the checklines() method in pdb is broken, and this
