I use stock (Gnome) Hardy. I have this problem as well. It seems to
connect on it's own if I wait long enough, but I needs me internet, so I
don't do that often.
I haven't tried uninstalling Network Manager.
I'm not likely to install WICD as it's not in the Ubuntu repos as far as

In Jaunty I can connect to the internet and include "pon dsl-provider" in the

I have the same problem, except using Kubuntu Karmic with kernel
2.6.30-8-generic and no fglrx or other proprietary drivers.
The system freezes at apparently random time and any application with the num
light illuminating, Nothing can unfreeze it. Only power off.

No news. I did send the bug upstream. It's such a small issue, and one
that is likely only noticed by geeks, power nuts, or folks who haven't
yet put 2 and 2 together (and they will because they're savvy enough to
use Bittorrent or otherwise mess with large files) that I didn't worry

I have kubuntu 32-bit jaunty and I finally got sound on flash by
sudo aptitude remove pulseaudio
and then
sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio stop
to make sure it was stopped
But sound with mplayer was fine -- so this fixed sound for flash
