Firefox has been crashing (apparently) randomly more and more often,
especially when trying to open new tabs. I am downloading firefox-dbg so
that I may be able to provide a report next time it happens.

I have updated to maxima 5.9.2-2ubuntu2 (dapper-proposed). Both wxmaxima and
xmaxima are now working properly. I tried most of the tests that come with the
package, plus some calculus and plotting comands, with complete success. Thanks
to all that helped!
For the record: Ubuntu 6.06, kernel 2.6.
I have apparently hidden this bug (temporarily) using the workaround suggested
in http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=42873 and mentioned by piero:
Added "acpi=force" to the first kernel line in boot/grub/menu.lst so that it
reads:

No. It not always crash/freeze when starting. I am now using it and have no
problems at the moment.
I try to run in safe mode and it crash/freeze also.
Them I have tried to build a new profile and crash the first time.
Then I getting back to old profile. And at this moment its stable. Other

Its possible, however, that this crash have some relation with video player,
perhaps ShockWave Flash, because 3 of the 4 crash that happened was in Youtube,
playing videos.
Next I'm going to try FF 3.5.8 instead of 3.6. And
Yes Robert, this bug was on Lucid Beta 1 and is already fixed in standard
Kubuntu/Ubuntu 10.4 LTS installation.

I did some testing with the daily image from today (2010-02-17) and I
was able to boot selecting *either* "acpi=off" or "nomodeset". Trying to

After all, the problems are not neither from FF 3.6 or Konqueror.
The problems are with ATI video driver.
I have work with some images in Gimp, KolourPait and GwenView and the system
also crash/freeze.º

I'm very sorry, but further utilization (tests) with Lucid beta 1 and firefox
3.6 shown that this error also occurs with desktop effects turned off.
At this moment only 2 factors are the same. Firefox 3.6 and Lucid Lynx beta1.

This is a problem with the Ubuntu Image, not with the Virtual Box
package that is being distributed.
I had similar symptoms, so I went to Windows XP and installed the last
version of VirtualBox Free Edition (not Open Source). I tried to boot
the Lucid ISO (and yes the checksum was ok). The initial
recording software it prepare all commands
for FFmpeg.

This seems to have been fixed in Karmic, I have an Asus Eee 701 and
maximizing the Rhythmbox window now yields the expected results. All the
application is displayed and the scroll bars let me see everything.

for the ffmpeg suite) as it requires libavcodec-extra-52

I'm seeing this behavior too. I was trying to update an Ubuntu Server to
test Karmic and spotted this. It was very weird because "sudo do-
release-upgrade" apparently works and "sudo do-release-upgrade -d"
doesn't.
I checked the process environment and the $http_proxy variable is
correctly defined
I solved the problem and tested it on my system. The upgrade to a
development release now works fine.
I use urllib2 to test the repository url insted of using httplib and
ftplib, so the proxy definitions are used. The code is more compact too.
Can someone have a look?

Please ignore the screen shot at comment #2 it was taken in a Virtual
Box VM, On real hardware (tested it with a Eee PC 701) the system menu
doesn't have any problem.
The Games menu does have the issue that is described.

It took me a few minutes to figure this out too. Although this works,
it seems that my selection gets reset after shutting down the computer.
In other words, this doesn't seem to get saved here. Does anybody have
the same problem?

I have an Eee PC 701 4G and I installed Karmic Beta today. My touch pad
doesn't seem to work correctly. I can move the cursor, but it doesn't
detect tapping with my finger, I have to use the button.

Apparently the issue has finally been solved for kernel 2.6.32 and in
the latest ath9k drivers from compat-wireless. Truly solved, it's not a
trick like disabling power saving.

I have an Eee S101. I had the same issues described here, and I
installed linux-backports-modules-wireless-karmic-generic. The situation
