The application KDE Daemon (kded4) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).
I'm starting to think that this might not be a bug in xserver-xorg-
video-ati after all. I've been running a test install of Fedora 8
(which also uses the 6.8.0-1 ati driver) for three weeks on the same
hardware, and I have yet to see the freeze.

I'm glad to hear that you're having better luck with the proprietary ATI

After posting my success with Fedora 8 on the freedesktop lists (linked

I know this isn't exactly helpful in resolving this bug, but I tried
running `etracer` on my ThinkPad (a 9000, not a 9600) on this Fedora 8

I started comparing packages on my Hardy workstation (ATI X600, randomly

only difference I could find was in Compiz. The Hardy machine is
running Compiz 0.7.4 and the ThinkPad 0.6.2. Both are using the 6.8.0-1

the temps at
Core1 - min 41C, max 54C
Core2 - min 43C, max 55C
GPU - min 59C, max 67C
Fan - min 2921 rpm, max 3324 rpm

I recently updated the kernel to the newest version(2.6.32-23-generic)
using the update manager and now I am unable to boot in to my Lucid

My setup is LVM on top of a RAID 0 array. My computer had been running

Josh, follow the steps given by Valentin Neacsu (posted 2007-09-01)
The file to modify is in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-1.2.2/src/synaptics.c
just after the line 2518 where it says:
Bool inside_active_area;
/* update hardware state in shared memory */

shm-x = hw-x;
As a second attempt to move exclusively to Ubuntu, I installed 10.04.
This still seems to be a problem. Are there any new workarounds or
suggestions how to make the wireless networking work with Intel 4965
wireless?

I don't remember where i found the way to get your crashed kernel to
boot again, but it goes as follows.
If you have an older kernel still installed, try to log into that one...
otherwise use a liveCD (or USB pendrive). Once logged in, open up a
terminal and execute the following two commands.
Same problem here, Ubuntu 10.04 i386 (kernel 2.6.32-24). Very
frustrating indeed!
What can I do to help solve this?

clicking away all the popped up windows, which say
