That's correct Tim, the G is formed by the combination of both U's. The
symbol stands for both Ubuntu and GNOME at the same time, depending on
how you look at it ;)

In a standalone logo, when you show a GNOME footprint, it basically screams
GNOME, and the identity of Ubuntu GNOME is lost.
