With Desktop Effects, I get black on some part of Firefox and Thunderbird

I got the same problem with my Epson Perfection 1260 with Feisty 7.04 64bits. I
resolved it by changing warmup time option in /etc/sane.d/plustek.conf (I use
Plustek backend) from -1 (automatic warmup) to 5 and it works fine.

I was having this problem as well with Feisty and nvidia geforce 6200.
Tried both compiz and beryl and with nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-new
drivers and was always getting the black screen when changing back to an
already logged in user. I also got this behavior whenever I ran a game
that went to
