I should mention what I was doing when the crash occurred. I had just
opened OpenOffice development version 37 (the current one) and had
attempted to start a database, which requires java. I didn't have java
installed, and it gave me the error message, but suddenly I lost my
custom wallpaper. Last
I updated today and this bug is no more in my Intrepid amd64. You may
want to close it.

I can confirm, too, the same issue on KDE 4.2 RC1 on Intrepid i386, also the
non-saving issue (i.e. any change to kmix).
I also have to add that my system does not return to the KDM login dialog, X
does not restart and I have to manually log into a console (CTRL-ALT-F1/6) and
halt the system.

I am merely trying to update 8.10,, not upgrade to 9.??,, just trying to update
8.10 ,,trying to get updates for 8.10.. have changed sources but the outcome is
the same

I encountered this problem recently.
Displayed Cpu usage values are over 1100% regularly, which, I persume, are
slighly erroneous ;-)
Strange thing though is that my desktop system is not affected but my laptop
definitely is.
Both are running Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10
