I test to blacklist b43,b43-pci-bridge and ssb but it does not change anything

Seeing what I assume is this bug on 9.04 Jaunty 64 bit. Network seemed
to work ok when I was running at 100 mb. After switching over to
gigabit, I have frequent network disconnect/reconnects (which autoneg to
1000). Tried changing cable with no change and the switch works fine

I managed to update my problematic machine to Karmic. A curious thing
that I forgot to mention before, this PC does boot if I try it *less
than TEN MINUTES after turning off Windows XP*. Each time I want to use
Ubuntu on this machine I have to boot Windows first, then restart the
machine and boot
This is never going to be fixed in grub. If you want Windows to be the
first boot option with grub 1, put it *above* the line marked ### BEGIN
AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST.
The problems with the grub config file are fundamental, and are only
fixed with the migration to grub2 (in progress).

Don't know exactly what I did but finally it's working. Karmic is not
recognizing the E220 (shows up on desktop). Lets hope tomorrow it's
still working without having to plugin plugout endlessly.

grub-install copies GRUB images into the DIR/boot directory specfied by
--root-directory, and uses the grub shell to install grub into the boot
sector.

rm /sbin/initctl
dpkg-divert --local --remove /sbin/initctl
breaks gdm in both Karmic and mint Helena.
Which leaves egg on my face since I'd included it in my chroot script
for some time!
How can I fix gdm?
