I just tested this on Ubuntu 9.10 with Inkscapea 0.47 and it still
happens. I couldn't get artifacts to appear on the desktop background
but the thumbnail still had them.
Interestingly in 0.47 you can select all of the empty text boxes with
ctrl + A but not using the mouse cursor.
Should this be

I can reproduce this with Inkscape 0.47 on Windows XP.
The following also crashes Inkscape:
1. Open inkscape_crash.svg
2. With the Selector tool, grab the curve and move it.
(The crash occurs on letting go, and there's the same assertion failure as
above.)

the indicator works only with horizontal panels and when vertical panel
is used only the messaging menu is displayed , the rhythmbox icon is
missing , it took me a while to realize that the icon was hidden out of
the screen area.
